SHAH ALAM - Specific laws for illegal ticket scalping are needed to impose penalties on individuals involved in bulk ticket purchasing and scalping activities, said a Human Rights lawyer.

Lim Wei Jiet in his Twitter post said the US has implemented the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act 2016 to punish individuals that employ ticket bots to automate ticket bulk purchase.

"Therefore, we should definitely enact a legislation," he reasoned.

He was referring to the recent incident involving ticket scalpers reselling Coldplay concert tickets in Malaysia at inflated prices.

One ticket scalper bought a ticket from the "My Universe" zone, originally priced at RM2,108, and is now selling it for RM4,000.

Another individual was selling a CAT4 ticket, originally priced at RM598 for RM1,569, an increase of nearly 50 per cent from the original price.

Further checks revealed that an individual was also selling two CAT3 tickets from the standing zone, with a retail price of RM658 each for RM2,000.

Fans have expressed frustration and disappointment over the situation, urging the authorities to take appropriate action to address and prevent such occurrences in the future.
