KUALA SELANGOR - The Selangor government guarantees that there is sufficient water supply in the state for a period of six months to face the current hot weather.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the guarantee was made based on the Raw Water Guarantee Scheme (SJAM) implementation project which cost RM320 million.

He said SJAM can not only solve the water supply issue during the drought season but also help deal with the water pollution issue.

"The infrastructure project includes four packages A, B, C and D, and this project was expected to be completed earlier but it was delayed due to the Movement Control Order (MCO)," he said.

He said this when met in a press conference after officiating the SJAM Project Launch Ceremony at Rumah Pump HORAS, Kampung Sungai Darah Bestari Jaya, here, today.

He said the state government currently has 98 reservoirs and six existing dams that are capable of supplying water in the case of pollution and drought.

"The current water level in all of the dams is satisfactory which means the reservoir storage is above 90 to 95 per cent," he said.

He said as many as 1.6 million Air Selangor account holders are expected to benefit from this project.

"Another function of the reservoir is to suck out polluted water using a pumping system.

"When raw water pollution is detected in Sungai Selangor, the Collapsible Weir will be raised to prevent contaminated raw water from entering the Water Treatment Plant (LRA) SSP SSP 1,2 and 3 by diverting the contaminated water," he explained.
