Allah issue: Government to conduct thorough study
ROSKHOIRAH YAHYASHAH ALAM - The government and Home Ministry will conduct a comprehensive study on the administrative order related to the use of the word Allah issue.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said it needs to be done because there is a conflict between orders from the Ministry's administration and the decision made by the Cabinet in 1986.
"Due to this contradiction, we as a responsible government will review the administrative order on the issue.
"Then the government will present the proposal to strengthen the enforcement policies regarding the use of the word Allah to the Conference of Rulers, as consented by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong," he said on Twitter today.
Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had instructed the Cabinet Meeting to discuss the Attorney-General Chambers' (AG) decision to withdraw the appeal against Jill Ireland's case of using the word “Allah” in her religious education.
In this regard, he said the Cabinet is aware that the decision was made due to administrative issues and does not change the Federal Court ruling in 2014.
Saifuddin added that the matter involved civil and administrative legal issues in confiscating Jill Ireland's publication materials, and not the issue of using the word Allah.
