'Cuti-cuti Cikgu' programme among the 10 'gifts' for educators

MELAKA - The Education Ministry has announced 10 initiatives which will focus on teacher's welfare in conjunction with the 2023 Teachers Day celebration.

The initiatives include reducing cost of living, boosting the economy and improving the nation's welfare.

Its minister Fadhlina Sidek said the initiatives announced will also include cooperation with strategic partners to introduce the 'Cuti-cuti Cikgu' programmes , so that teachers will be able to take breaks to rest their minds.

She said the programme will offer discounted flight tickets, accommodation discounts, land transportation discounts and discounted theme parks tickets in cooperation with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, (Tourism Malaysia), Transport Ministry and several other agencies.

"This is to appreciate the contribution of teachers by offering them exciting holiday package deals, this initiative can also help to promote the travel destinations and boost the country's economy.

Among the other initiatives is also to give approval for teachers in all educational institutions to wear corporate clothing or uniforms for comfort while performing their duties," she said.

Fadhlina was speaking at this year's Teachers Day Celebration which was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), Ayer Keroh, here on Tuesday.

Also present was Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

The other initiatives that were announced were the amendment of the Special Circular Bill 5/2002 School Visits on School Days and the the K9 comprehensive school expansion plan - which will see the addition of 10 more schools in an effort to address the issue of student exclusion especially in rural and Orang Asli areas.

The initiatives also cover the expansion of the Jalinan Kasih Guidance School (SBJK) to Sabah and the education ministry's cooperation with the Education Services Commission (SPP) to strengthen the management and recruitment of education officers.

Fadhlina also added that the ministry also plans on abolishing the collection of Teacher's Day donations and enhancing the role of the Malaysia Insani Teachers group.

The ministry will also look into enhancing the Tun Hussein Onn Teachers Foundation (YGTHO) in its efforts to improve teachers' professionalism and l welfare as well as improving the Malaysian Teachers Standards 2.0
