SHAH ALAM - The fight against corruption should be championed by everyone, regardless of background, in Malaysia, says Rasuah Busters team leader Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub.

"All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia (APPGM) on Integrity, Governance, and Anti-Corruption was the first of its kind in which people, parliamentarians, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), civil groups, and the media joined in this legal entity in hopes to eradicate corruption in the country.

"We must have seriousness, not only in terms of politics but also be willing to do anything to fight corruption. Alhamdulillah, Allah will ease everything.

"Since the establishment of the Rasuah Busters, 520 non profit organisations (NGOSs) have joined. My appeal to all members of parliament is that they have four and a half years in power; do it seriously and make reforms to fight corruption," Hussamuddin said during a press conference after the APPGM event held at the Karangkraf Complex here on Tuesday.

It has to start within each and every one of us to say no to corruption, he added.

He also expressed his hope for the members of parliament to discuss three matters in parliament: the implementation of institutional reforms, including the independence of judicial institutions; the amendment of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC); and the separation of the role of the Attorney General from the role of the Public Prosecutor.

"This has to be discussed in greater detail, and we should be serious about achieving our goals," he stressed.

The establishment of APPGM was approved by the Dewan Rakyat on April 3, with the aim of enacting, improving, and empowering policies related to anti-corruption and national governance to ensure transparency and accountability and prevent abuse of power through a collective combination of parliamentarians, senators, civil society, and experts in related fields.
