SHAH ALAM - Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) said it has been aware of the illegal dumping of rubbish at the Kapar- Kuala Selangor border, since October 2020

Since its discovery, a series of continuous discussions and enforcements have been taken.

Perpetrators have been given notice, reports have been lodged to government agencies, land owners and related entities. Besides that, a number of barriers have also been placed at the entrance to overcome the problem.

In a statement TNB had clarified that in its latest survey at the area last May 12, they did not find any recent dumping of rubbish within the TNB territory.

However, there has been illegal dumping of rubbish outside the parameters established by TNB which has also contributed to fires happening in the area.

To overcome this, TNB will continue to work with the related agencies to increase surveillance as well as increasing patrols more often by mobilising drones and installing cameras.

TNB has also advised the public to not carry out any activity in the TNB pylons area without written permission and to comply with the regulations. Trespassing activities such as dumping is not permitted as they may cause casualties, damage to TNB installations and supply disruptions to the National Grid system.

Any unauthorised activity in the compound is an offense under section 37(12)(a) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990 (Act 448) and legal action can be taken including under Section 37(12)(b) of the same act. Section 37(12)(b) provides that any person who contravenes this section has committed an offense and is liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or imprisonment for no longer than two years or both.

For inquiries or complaints regarding activities within the TNB transmission towers area, please contact TNB CareLine at 15454.

TNB was responding to Sinar Daily report on May 12th entitled "Residents near huge illegal dumpsite in Kapar 'waiting to exhale'".

In the report, residents had voiced out their concerns about the dumpsite effects on their health and that trash at the dumping site had been getting bigger and bigger.

Following the nationwide lockdowns imposed in 2020 and 2021 to stem the spread of Covid-19, the illegal dumpsite had grown exponentially.
