PUTRAJAYA - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says Tan Sri Azam Baki's attitude in performing his duties without favouring any sides or parties was the contributing factor for the government to continue his services as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner.

Anwar said never in history has a minister's office been investigated by the MACC.

"On that capacity we will continue his service," he said during a press conference after chairing the National Economic Action Council meeting (MTEN) at the Perdana Putra building here on Monday.

He said such when commenting about Azam's contract which has been extended for a year.

Anwar said Azam has been given the freedom to lead MACC in its the efforts of combating abuse, misconduct and corruption.

"He was appointed during Pagoh's ( former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's) time.

"In terms of my work, I give the flexibility towards MACC and the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) to carry out their duties. He has carried out his duties well," he said.

The media previously reported that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah approved of Azam's reappointment for a year, with effect from May 12.
