Accreditation, approval needed to deliver religious talks, lectures in Perak

IPOH - Any individual who wants to deliver religious talks and lectures in mosques and surau in Perak still needs to obtain accreditation and approval from the district religious office.

Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk) director Harith Fadzilah Abdul Halim said the individual must comply with the rules set by the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) as a policy maker for religious agencies in the state.

"Perak is sticking to its decision, if any individual wants to give a religious talk or lecture in Perak, there are two conditions. The first one, to teach in a mosque or surau, needs accreditation. If he wants to give a lecture, he needs to get approval from the relevant district religious official.

"Meaning that if he gets approval from the district religious office, and follows the procedure then he can deliver talks. Even though he is a famous speaker, he still has to (get the approval of the district religious office)," he told reporters after JAIPk's and the Ipoh Chinese Muslim Association Aidilfitri open house here today.

He said this when asked if Perak would follow the steps of Pahang which gave exemptions to deliver religious talks in the state to some religious figures and preachers.

On May 9, the media reported that 13 religious figures and preachers were granted exemptions in Pahang.

According to a circular signed by the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Hairi Hussain, all those who are exempted do not need to apply for approval to deliver religious talks and lectures in the state. - BERNAMA
