PORT DICKSON - The good relationship between an organisation’s union and management needs to be always maintained in order to optimise the liaison between employees and employers, said Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Roslan Ariffin.

Taking for example Bernama's inhouse union, Kesatuan Pekerja-Pekerja Bernama (KPPB), he said it is seen as playing an important role in helping management improve the welfare and needs of its more than 1,000 workforce.

"I hope this good relationship (union members and management) will continue for the long term as it will also benefit Bernama, and even the union members themselves have helped the management a lot.

"Therefore, we need to get to know each other. Each of us can give our views and ideas that we can implement in the future thus ensuring Bernama will be the best media agency in the country," he said after officiating the KPPB Family Day and Dinner here tonight.

He said the Bernama management always supports and encourages union activities among their staff apart from appreciating its role in ensuring all Bernama programmes are implemented well.

"From May 27 to 29, we will hold the 2023 National Journalists Day (Hawana). It is a big programme that has been entrusted to us at the national level, so we definitely expect Bernama staff to organise this programme well," he added.

KPPB was established in September 1974 and the union has more than 300 members. - BERNAMA
