Unemployed man burns house and tries to attack firefighters

PETALING JAYA - An unemployed man was arrested for preventing firefighters from entering a house to put out a fire in Section 17 Damansara here on Friday.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said police received a report of the fire at 3.33pm.

He further added that the police and firemen's were rushed to the incident

"When the firemen were about to enter the house, a man armed with a knife stopped them.

"However, the authorities managed to enter the house and the firemen managed to put out the fire," he said in a statement on Friday.

He said, however, tthe 42-year-old suspect was successfully arrested.

He said the suspect was an unemployed man who rented a room in the house.

"His act of burning the bedroom curtains caused the fire. It is believed that the suspect is in a delusional state due to being positive for drugs," he said.

He added that the suspect, who was found positive for drugs through urine screening, has been remanded for four days until next Monday.

The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code
