Hamzah unaware of projects under ministry's agencies in businessman's graft case - Ahmad Ikhwan

KUALA LUMPUR - A police report has been lodged to clear the name of opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin after his name was implicated in a graft case.

His private secretary Ahmad Ikhwan Fadli said the Larut MP's name was wrongly included in the charges against a company director involving projects during his tenure as home minister.

"Hamzah did not even know about the projects mentioned in the charges. In fact, the four charges only stated any project belonging to an agency under the Home Ministry.

"He (Hamzah) does not have any knowledge about the facts in it (the charges)," Ahmad Ikhwan said.

Ahmad Ikhwan lodged the report at the Dang Wangi district police headquaters acccompanied by Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

He urged the police to probe on the conspiracy or intervention on the agencies responsible in linking Hamzah's name to the case.

The report, he said was to clear Hamzah's name.

Recently, the former home minister's name was linked to a graft case involving projects under the ministry even though he was not directly involved in it.

This follows the case of company director Datuk Seri Sim Choo Thiam, 53, who was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Wednesday with soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM15 million to secure projects from the Home Ministry in 2021.

Sim pleaded not guilty to the charges before judge Rozina Ayob. His case will be up for mention on June 14.
