Hot weather: Chilies, eggplants production decline by 50 per cent

SHAH ALAM - The ongoing heat wave in the country has caused small-scale farmers to earn lesser, causing distress as their revenue dips.
Nazrullah Mohamad Ani, a farmer who grows chili and eggplant said that his 1.2-hectare crop yield had decreased by 50 per cent due to the hot weather.
He added the heat had led to a decline in the quality of the vegetables, decreasing production and increased pest attacks.
"I have been facing this problem since December last year and the situation really affected my income and crop yield.
"Honestly, I am truly affected as my income is not much but I still need to spend a lot to take care of the crops," he said.
The farmer from Perlis added that he had to spend RM2,000 which is twice as much money to buy pesticides.
"If I don't buy the pesticides, the entire crop could be damaged and that would increase my expenditure in the replanting process," he said.
