KUALA LUMPUR - Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad challenges Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to declare all of his assets to prove he is clean and not misusing his powers.

He said he was shocked by Anwar's repeated statements that many previous leaders have attained great wealth due to corruption and that he has several boxes of evidence to back his claims.

"If it's available, then reveal it and file it in court, but he didn’t.

"He wanted the previous leaders to declare their assets and aid the poor people. Anwar is one of the veteran leaders accused of aiding cronies," he tweeted on Monday.

Dr Mahathir urged Anwar to declare his assets when he became deputy prime minister previously, as demanded now, and help the people with his own money, not the government's money.

"At the same time, Anwar also alleged that he has information about billions of ringgit that my family and I supposedly took.

"I shouldn’t be asked to declare my assets, as Anwar would have known through the boxes of documents containing proof of my wealth," he said.

Anwar was urged to reveal the wealth information of his predecessor to the court so that it would be known to the world.

"I don’t have to declare it," he stated.

Anwar previously stated that Dr Mahathir had wealth worth billions of ringgit in foreign banks to be brought back to Malaysia to help the Malays.

In 2019, during Dr Mahathir’s administration as the seventh prime minister, both leaders declared their assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as requested by Pakatan Harapan.

Anwar declared his overall assets worth RM10.74 million while Mahathir declared RM32.3 million.
