KUALA LUMPUR - Bersatu Information chief Datuk Razali Idris said the support of some Bersatu leaders towards the Malay Proclamation, initiated by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, is not linked to the upcoming state elections.

He further said their support for Mahathir was based on their individual capacity to unite Malays and that they were not discussing state seat allocations or the entry of Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) into Perikatan Nasional.

He said it was also not based on party orders.

“It is base on individual capacity to unite Malays. We are not discussing state seat allocations,” he said at the Bersatu Open House , today.

Also present were Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Bersatu Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

Apart from Razali, Ahmad Faizal and the Bersatu Supreme Council member Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid signed the proclamation which was initiated by the former Langkawi MP online after the location to hold the assembly was cancelled twice.

On March 27, Malay Proclamation Secretariat in a statement said the campaign would be done continuously to ensure it reaches all Malays who love the country.

The previous organisers were reported to have said the Malay Proclamation is not political in nature but it only wanted to discuss the issues relating to the Malay community.

Razali said he supports the effort of the former prime minister as he considers Mahathir as a statesman who could unite the Malays.

“The Malays are falling apart so we place Tun M as a statesman to unite all Malays,” he said.
