MELAKA - The Melaka government is targetting a revenue of RM30 million next year with the expected arrival of 6,000 tourists from the Middle East countries in conjunction with Visit Melaka Year 2024 (VMY 2024).

State Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razal Abdul Rahman said this followed the signing of the Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with four tourism agencies in the Middle Eastern countries today.

He said that the signing of the MoUs was part of the effort to strengthen Melaka's position as a preferred destination for tourists from the Middle East.

This initiative is an extension of Melaka’s participation in the Arabian Travel Market 2023, held in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), from last April 30 to May 4, he told reporters after the MoU signing ceremony between the Melaka chapter of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) and four tourism agencies from Middle Eastern countries.

The four travel agencies are Egypt Promotion Travel SAE (Cairo), Travel Link (Amman), Asean Travel & Tourism Agency (Saudi Arabia) and Adonis Tourism LLC (UAE and Oman).

Abdul Razak said the MoUs were also signed to strengthen cooperation and expand the tourism marketing network between the Melaka chapter of MATTA and tourism agencies from the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Melaka chapter MATTA chairman Goh Hock Gin said with the signing of the MoUs, tourists brought by the travel agencies concerned would stay in Melaka for at least one night, from only a day trip currently. - BERNAMA
