Support from 148 MPs still strong
KUALA LUMPUR - The support of 148 MPs towards the unity government is still strong despite claims of wavering support for the current leadership.
Unity government secretariat chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said there has been a continuous discussion among them.
He said the allegations only came about as some parties were jealous of the harmony of the current government.
"Alhamdulillah, the support from 148 MPs who signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) of the unity government are still strong.
"More importantly, there is always a medium to discuss and consult among us held every week, not per month.
"This is the case when there are people who are unhappy with the current government's strength and integrity. They are people who are jealous," he said in a press conference on the Unity Government National Convention at Menara Dato Onn, here, today.
The Umno secretary-general added that he will ensure the communications among the component parties that make up the unity government will always continue.
He said there was no single party that dominated the unity government, but rather everyone was given equal space.
"We have held many series of meetings before, which means it is not a one man show or one party dominating the other," he said.
For the past few days, allegations of a movement to topple the existing government had been circulating.
For instance, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) supreme council member Muhammad Faiz Na'aman had hinted that the movement to topple the unity government was not merely a speculation and in fact, was made known to the highest leadership in the government.
