Negotiations underway for Jho Low's extradition
KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says the government is committed in its effort to extradite fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, as soon as possible.
He said Malaysia was in the midst of negotiating with the country Low or better known as Jho Low was believed to have fled to.
"We have never confirmed his whereabouts, but we are still negotiating with some countries to expedite the process.
"It is a negotiation between countries, in a diplomatic way," he said.
He said this during a press conference at the Malaysian Red Crescent Society's (MRCS) 75th anniversary celebration and the opening ceremony of the MRCS national headquarters, here, today.
Also present were national MRCS chairman Tunku Temenggong Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah; Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek; Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli.
Asked where Jho Low was, the Tambun MP declined to disclose the country involved, but stated the government's readiness to bring the fugitive bussinesman back.
"It (negotiation) is quite complicated, it involves several countries, the intelligence unit and international police," he said.
He said so far, the country involved had given cooperation through the negotiation process.
On April 20, Bradley Hope, the author of the "Billion Dollar Whale", a book on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) quoted a source saying that it was believed that negotiations were ongoing between the Malaysian government and China for Jho Low's extradition.
Hope said the plan (to extradite Jho Low) was currently being discussed following Anwar's previous visit to China.
