39 firecrackers injury cases recorded in Kelantan, says state health

KOTA BHARU - The Kelantan Health Department (JKNK) recorded 39 firecracker injury cases from March 25 to date.

Its director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said 10 of the cases were treated at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZ II) while nine were treated at Tanah Merah Hospital.

He said four cases each were treated at Tengku Anis Hospital in Pasir Puteh, Gua Musang Hospital, Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital in Kuala Krai in addition to two cases at Tumpat Hospital, Machang Hospital (two), Jeli Hospital (three) and one at Pasir Mas Hospital.

"Two cases were referred to specialist hospitals due to serious injuries while 14 victims were treated as outpatients due to non-serious injuries.

"Twenty-three cases were warded for further treatment and required monitoring by doctors and medical staff," he said in a statement, here today.

"JKNK takes a serious view of the increase in incidents of injuries caused by playing with firecrackers in the state and advises the public, especially parents, to supervise children to refrain from playing with firecrackers," he said. -Bernama
