KUALA LUMPUR - The defence has asked the Sessions Court on Wednesday to consider Rumah Bonda's founder, Siti Bainun Ahd Razali's body weight before meting out her sentence

Lawyer, Mohammad Farhan Maaruf said this during the mitigation argument before Judge Izralizam Sanusi, during the proceedings for the decision on the case of neglecting and mistreating a teenager with Down syndrome known as Bella.

He said the court had to consider the matter since his client had health problems.

"If a prison sentence is imposed on her, it will affect her health.

"The prison sentence can be replaced by the maximum fine, as contained in the law," he said.

Mohammad Farhan went on to argue that the bail amount (RM17,000) against Siti Bainun, is sufficient to pay the maximum fine, if allowed by the court.

In addition, he said, Siti Bainun has to take care of her mother, even though she only runs a business selling cakes.

Farhan also asked the court to consider Siti Bainun's social work in the field of welfare and volunteering.
