A newborn baby abandoned under a tree
KUANTAN - A woman was shocked when her neighbor had found a newborn baby boy, with his umbilical cord cut, abandoned on top of a wooden board under a tree near her home in Kampung Peramu Tanjung Lumpur here.
A witness Norhazilawati Nasron, 31, said that she found out after her mother-in-law had called for her after their neighbor known as Mok Ti had found the baby at about 12.30pm today.
She said the baby was found without any clothes or cover.
"When Mok Ti found the baby, she immediately called for my mother-in-law and then she told me about it.
"So, I left the house and saw a crowd and Mok Ti who had already picked up, saved and covered the baby with batik cloth.
"We don't know when the baby was left there, whether it was last night or just today. But we can see the blood on his hands had dried and the umbilical cord was cut. I also saw some weaver ants on the baby's head and there were bite marks on his body," she said on Saturday.
Norhazilawati said this was the first time she had witnessed a baby being abandoned with her own two eyes, as she previously only heard about this kind of incident through the news and photos in the newspaper.
"We are used to hearing about it and looking at pictures but this time we saw it first-hand. I am stunned and surprised," she said.
The mother of three further told that there was no documents found and residents who witnessed the incident had immediately contacted the police for further action.
"I had asked and searched for it but I couldn't find anything. The police then arrive a few minutes later and took the baby to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA) for further action," she explained.
Meanwhile, Kuantan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu had confirmed the incident when contacted and further investigations is in progress.
