ALOR SETAR - The federal government has allocated a large allocation for Kedah compared to previous years.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said a whopping RM1.6 billion was allocated this year to develop Kedah.

He said in addition to the allocation, other assistance was also given, including to clean water supply projects in several districts that needed help.

"It does not include some other measures, such as aid to schools and clinics in Kedah.

"Recently, when I went to China, there was a proposal to invest more in Kulim Hi Tech Park," he said at the Malaysia Madani Aidilfitri Open House, here, today.

Anwar said that the government gave assurances of full cooperation to speed up the development process.

"Insya-Allah, together with the state government and local authorities (PBT) cooperation, Kedah would grow significantly.

"There are also some other matters being considered. As I had mentioned before, whether the state government supports the Unity Government or not, the responsibility to protect the people will still be fulfilled," he said.

In the meantime, Anwar believed that Malaysia Madani would continue to excel if the government could govern the country well, in addition to eliminating corruption practises and abuse of power.

"We will use all of the machinery to look after the people's welfare and the harmony of all races," he said.
