'Selangor PN never discussed fielding KJ as candidate'
SHAH ALAM - Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) has never discussed fielding former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin as a candidate in the Selangor state election expected to be held no later than this year.
Selangor Pas secretary Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir said the issue of Khairy competing for a seat was merely speculation.
"These are all possibilities, and there is no confirmation that Khairy is contesting the Selangor state election.
"In fact, at the (PN) state level, we have never discussed whether Khairy will join Pas or Bersatu," he said when contacted by Sinar today.
However, Roslan said PN is always ready to accept if any former Umno leaders want to join hands in defeating Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the state.
When asked if Khairy has expressed his intention to join Pas, Roslan said the former health minister would need to submit an application to Pas central leadership.
"If there is an instruction (from Pas central leadership), then we will follow. So far there is nothing (application to join Pas)," he said.
Previously, a news portal reported that Khairy would compete in one of the state legislative assembly seats under the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency if he accepted Bersatu's offer to join the party before state polls.
