GEORGETOWN - The new government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership is currently focusing on restoring the national economy and looking after people's welfare.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that the speculation that the government will be overthrown is not considered a threat as the Unity government that has been established with a four-party coalition with PH has great responsibilities for the people and the country.

"I want to stress that the Unity government led by Anwar is solid, intact, and well functioning. I do not consider it (the speculation) a threat, and I also have no plans to respond to any of it.

"Our main focus now is to restore the economy, help the people in post-Covid pandemic, develop political stability, prosper the economy, and take care of the people's welfare," he said in a press conference on board the Burau Maritime Ship, here today.

Previously, there were speculations on a plan to overthrow the Unity government under Anwar's leadership.

A news portal reported on Monday that several members of parliament who had previously supported Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to be appointed Prime Minister after the 15th General Election (GE15) have joined the movement.

The report also included a list of ten Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs, namely Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong; Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng; Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein; Simpang Renggam MP Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad; Jelebu MP Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias and Tapah MP Datuk Seri M Saravanan.

According to the anti-party hopping act, any MP who resigns or quits as a party member will lose their seat in Dewan Rakyat and simultaneously trigger a by-election.
