11-year old boy first victim to die of heat stroke
BACHOK - An 11-year old boy from Kampung Perupok, here, becomes the first victim to die from heat stroke on Tuesday.
Muhamad Syamil Aqil died at 9.27am while receiving treatment at a clinic.
The victim’s mother known as Wanie said an autopsy carried out on her eldest son confirmed that the cause of death was due to heat stroke and dehydration.
“The doctor who treated him said his kidneys and heart were burnt. His body was empty (of water) and blood in his body had dried up,” said the mother of three when met at her home, here, today.
She said her son had been cycling actively while celebrating the first and second day of Hari Raya.
“On the third day, he started to develop a fever and had diarrhoea.
“I was monitoring his temperature every hour, but it was not high, it was around 37 to 38 degrees.
“On the fourth day after dawn, he looked weak. I took him to the clinic but he suddenly had cramps,” she said.
She said after Syamil died at the clinic, his body was taken to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZII) for an autopsy.
The Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Perupok student’s body was buried at the Kampung Sungai Muslim Cemetery after Isya prayers on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Bachok district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin confirmed receiving a report on the case.
