Saudi Arabia making every effort to stop the conflict in Sudan
KUALA LUMPUR - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is continuing to make every effort to stop the bloodshed, halt the fighting, and facilitate a return to the path of a political solution in Sudan.
The Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Malaysia in a statement said the kingdom was communicating with the concerned parties in Sudan as well as with friendly countries and international organisations over the matter.
"Any specific results we reach will be announced in due course,” said the statement made available to Bernama.
The statement said that Saudi Arabia, in partnership with brotherly and friendly countries, is encouraging the consolidation of the armistice, the opening of humanitarian corridors, and the protection of civilians in Sudan.
It added that the Saudi government is continuing to organise, coordinate, and facilitate evacuations, with efforts around the clock, to ensure the safe exit of civilians of all nationalities in Sudan, besides extending all possible assistance to brotherly and friendly countries in this field.
On April 15, violent clashes between the two parties broke out, with the epicentre in Khartoum. Government forces accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of mutiny and launched airstrikes against their bases.
Abdel Fattah Burhan, the head of the Sudanese military, issued a decree disbanding the RSF. The parties have since introduced a number of temporary nationwide ceasefires but the conflict is not over yet.
So far, around 600 people have died in the clashes, the Sudanese Health Ministry said. - BERNAMA
