Dark web: AKPK takes security measures following data breach of 20 customers
FARHANA ABD KADIRSHAH ALAM - The Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) has announced that it is taking security measures in response to a recent data breach that resulted in the personal information of 20 customers being published on the dark web.
The breached data included customers' names and national registration identity card (Mykad) numbers.
"AKPK will continue to mitigate the impact of the breach.
"We advise customers to stay vigilant," it said in a statement today.
AKPK said the information held by the cyber criminal responsible for the data breach was through illegal activities.
They further said any use or distribution of the same information would be considered a criminal offence.
"AKPK is working together with relevant authorities including the Communication and Digital Ministry and CyberSecurity Malaysia in the ongoing investigations.
"We are also working to identify the specific information illegally accessed of the affected customers," it said.
