Landslide: Piled foundation to be installed to avoid affecting nearby buildings

KUALA LUMPUR - Piled metal foundations will be installed soon at the entrance the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) at Persiaran Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, where a landslide struck yesterday, cutting off access to the institute.

Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner Beh Eng Lai said a discussion will be done with the technical parties consisting of Public Works Department (JKR) Slope Engineering Branch, Malaysian Minerals and Geosciences Department (JMG) as well as several other agencies at the Sentul district police headquarters (IPD) at 3pm on Wednesday.

"We will discuss the findings of the meeting as well as when it will be implemented (metal piling foundation installation) to avoid the Integrity Institute of Malaysia (IIM) and MACA buildings from being affected by landslide risks.

"We believe one (landslide) factor was due to the flow of water found yesterday, secondly would be water deposits or reservoir forming," he said in a press conference at the scene on Wednesday.

Beh said the agencies involved found there were till landslides and land corrosion at the scene.

"We found a small landslide and land movement occurring at 10pm yesterday, the area has been closed with a canvas for now," he said.

On Tuesday 76 MACA and IIM staffs faced the landslide in the area at 1.30pm.

The incident involved the area in front of the MACC owned academy and destroyed a guard post with the overall total of landslide estimated to be 30.48 x 36.57 square metres.
