SHAH ALAM - Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said that Undi18 was a move in the right direction despite most youths voting for the opposition in Nov 19 polls.

He said that Undi18 empowers young people by giving them a voice and enabling their choices to be recognised and valued.

"Undi18 was not meant to support only one political party over the other. The more important part is finally our youths have a voice and the right to vote in determining the future," he said during Politically Frank interview with Sinar Daily.

When asked about the age limit to be in his party, Syed Saddiq said there is no age limit to join his party, Muda.

"Muda is an acronym that's open to everyone," he explained, noting that their oldest member is 92 years old.

In response to being labeled a populist, he argued that his candidness may make some people uneasy but he clarified that it is not indicative of populism.

"If you're a populist, you must only champion for popular issues. I've gone against the tide many times but I'm vocal. I do fight for what I believe in," he said.

"I believe in these sets of principles and I will keep on pushing in that direction because I believe in building a Malaysia for all Malaysians," he added.

Speaking on the recent issue where he was barred from entering Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), he said that he hoped such miscommunication will be resolved better in the future.

He expressed his admiration for the university, noting its impressive reputation as one of the best institutions for debating.

"The issue has passed. I just hope in the future, miscommunication like this can be resolved better as I respect universities like UiTM," he pointed out.

"If anything, as a debater myself, UiTM till today is ranked one of the best universities when it comes to debating. At one point, it was ranked number two in the world. So, I have the greatest of respect for UiTM," he added.
