SHAH ALAM - MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong has dismissed the allegations of his party's involvement in an attempt to overthrow the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, calling it "nonsense and baseless".

Wee, the Ayer Hitam MP added that the allegations reported by a news portal on Monday were untrue and that he was not involved in the movement.

"For me personally as the MCA President, we do not know about the attempt to overthrow the government as reported.

"We will also not support such a move that requires any elected member of Parliament to 'sacrifice' their seat to force a by-election," he said in a Facebook post, today.

On Monday, an anonymous source informed an English news portal that some Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs were involved in a movement to overthrow the Unity Government.

In response, Wee said MCA is taking the allegations seriously and that the media should report news based on verified facts and information.

"A news portal that relies on anonymous sources is seen trying to fabricate news that there is a movement to challenge the unity government led by the Prime Minister.

"This is a despicable act and should be condemned. I consider this report to be nonsense and baseless.

Wee said that MCA's focus is on restoring the economy and advocating for the interests of the people.

He said their priority is to support policies and strategies that will promote the recovery of the country's economy through political stability as seen in the 15th general election (GE15).
