Rahmah concept should not be argued - Salahuddin
PONTIAN - The concept of 'Rahmah' should not be argued by any political parties if it benefits the people, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.
The Rahmah initiative, which was introduced by the Unity Government under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was to give benefits to the people, especially amid the high cost of living now, he added.
"I don’t have any issues if they (political parties) want to claim the Rahmah initiative, what’s important to me is the people getting the benefits.
"As during Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's era, he also has a 'baby' which is Wawasan 2020, so I think there should not be further arguments. Let Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Madani concept introduce the Rahmah initiative where it can support and underline the needs of the people," he said.
He was met at the Open House Ceremony at his hometown of Serkat on Monday.
Salahuddin was asked to comment on claims made by Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) deputy information chief that the Rahmah concept was mooted by Dr Mahathir.
It was reported that the Rahmah idea was mentioned by Dr Mahathir during his opening speech at the national level Quran Recitation and Memorisation in Kota Kinabalu on Feb 16, two years ago.
