Op Selamat 20: 260 vehicles involved in accidents on fourth day of Aidilfitri

SHAH ALAM - A total of 260 vehicles were involved in road accidents on the fourth day of Op Selamat 20 held in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) reported cars as the highest number of vehicles involved in road accidents, with a total of 1,528 or 73.7 per cent topping other types of vehicles.

Accidents involving motorcycles increased to 12.4 per cent, which is the second highest vehicle type.

"Accidents involving motorcycles yesterday were 47, bringing the overall number of two-wheeled vehicle accidents to 256," the JSPT official statement said on Monday.

The statement said 20 four-wheel-drive vehicles were involved in accidents yesterday.

This brought the overall number to 122, or 5.9 per cent.

Meanwhile, it said 17 accidents involving multipurpose vehicles (MPVs) were recorded during operations yesterday, contributing 4.9 per cent to the Op Selamat 20 statistics for the fourth day.

It added that seven vans were also involved in accidents yesterday, followed by two lorries, two (two) and a taxi.
