KUALA TERENGGANU - Terengganu government welcomes and will celebrate the arrival of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Cabinet ministers as special guests to the Malaysia Madani Open House on May 13.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said having different political backgrounds is not an obstacle to working together for the betterment of the people and the country.

"We are trying to prove that in Terengganu, even though we come from different political parties that govern the state and also the federal level, we have never considered it an obstacle to working together.

"So come, Insya-Allah they will be celebrated as special guests," he said when met at the Menteri Besar Aidilfitri Open House in Seri Iman, here, yesterday.

When asked if the visit was an attempt to gain votes ahead of the state election, Samsuri said it was up to the people to judge.

"It doesn't matter what the federal government wants to achieve, but as the state government, we 'open our doors' and welcome the Prime Minister and all the Cabinet members to celebrate Hari Raya in Terengganu.

"It depends on everyone's interpretation, but we, at Terengganu, welcome their presence. "We feel very happy that they are coming. Insya-Allah we will celebrate their arrival," he said.

In the meantime, Samsuri said he understood that six states would be involved in the Malaysia Madani Open House, but only three states were announced.

"These six states are the states that will hold the state election," he said.

Previously, the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) informed Anwar that he would not be holding a Hari Raya open house at his official residence at Kompleks Seri Perdana in Putrajaya this year.

However, the department announced that the Malaysia Madani Open House with the Prime Minister will be held in three states, namely Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.

It was also announced that Anwar would attend three open house events organised by the state governments of Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan in conjunction with Aidilfitri.
