Lemang argument turns violent after trader attacks customer with bamboo stick

MELAKA - A trader allegedly injured a customer with a lemang bamboo stick last Friday over uncooked lemang.

In the 8pm incident, the 61-year-old army retiree went to the stall of the 41-year-old trader to exchange the uncooked lemang he had bought earlier that day.

Central Melaka district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the victim had shown the uncooked lemang to the trader but the trader refused to look at it.

The trader then split one of the lemang the victim had bought and showed that it was fully cooked, which led to a verbal argument between them.

Patit said the suspect was upset because the victim had thrown the uncooked lemang while recording a video claiming that the stall sells uncooked lemang.

"The suspect was angry because the victim had throw the lemang which was said to be raw while recording a video to state that the stall sells uncooked lemang.

"The suspect then hit the victim with a lemang bamboo stick," he said in a statement today.

The victim suffered injuries to his left ear and right hand and had to seek treatment at Melaka Hospital as a result of the alleged attack, he said.

The suspect was arrested yesterday at Jalan Kota and was later released on police bail after giving his statement to the police.

An investigation paper has been opened and the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code, he added.
