KUALA PENYU - A woman was found dead while her husband suffered burns after their house caught fire in Kampung Gerowot here on early Sunday morning.

Victim, Ninik Yanuwati, 48, was found dead in the living room on the second floor of the house, while her husband, Jumin Ansiu, 52, managed to escape along with their two children, Ellisa Easwerina Christy, 13, and Marakh Wilson Abed Nego, 9, along with his mother-in-law, Sinap Suram, 78.

Kuala Penyu Fire and Rescue Department Chief Awang Mohd Sabree said they received a distress call at 6.57 am.

Six personnel were dispatched which was16 kilometers away from the Kuala Penyu Fire and Rescue Department, he said adding that the fire also destroyed a Proton Iswara car.

"Following further investigation, a woman was found dead while a man suffered burns on his legs. Both of them are a married," he said when contacted by Sinar.
