SHAH ALAM - The air pollution index (API) reading in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, records unhealthy levels as of this evening.

According to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), this area recorded an API reading of 115.

Almost all other districts nationwide recorded an average of 51 to 100 API which is a moderate level.

Areas with a good API record were Temerloh, Pahang (50), Tanjung Malim, Perak (45), Kota Tinggi, Johor, (48), Sarikei (46) and Kapit (44) in Sarawak.

Three areas in Sabah recorded good levels; Kimanis (48), Kota Kinabalu (47) and Sandakan (38).

The API readings of zero to 50 were categorised as good, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), and 201 to 300 (very unhealthy), while any levels above 300 are dangerous.
