A man bites off a police officer's finger in a frenzied attack

KUALA LUMPUR - A police officer lost his finger after a man went on a frenzy and broke into the guard post at the Sungai Besi police station here on Monday.

Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zam Halim Jamaluddin said in the 10.15pm incident the complainant was on duty with a colleague in front of the guard post when a man approached him.

"The 34-year-old suspect screamed he wanted to splash acid before splashing water on the officer's face and body and dashed into the police station grounds," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Zam said the suspect threw a canned drink at the glass wall causing it to break.

"A fight then ensued between the suspect and the officer when they attempted to arrest the man.

"The suspect had acted aggressively and bit the tip of the officer's ring finger on his right hand," he said.

The suspect suffered light injuries and was successfully detained.

"The suspect had a prior record with one case of fraud. The suspect's urine test found him positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine type drugs," he said.

He said the suspect had undergone psychiatric treatments in 2020.

"The suspect has been remanded for four days starting from Tuesday to Friday to aid investigations following Section 325/427 of the Penal Code and Section 90 of the Police Act 1967," he said.
