KUALA LUMPUR - Puteri Sarah Liyana Megat Kamaruddin's refusal to withdraw a lawsuit she filed against Ira Kazar and the latter's family is one of the reasons why the divorce between her and her husband Syamsul Yusof failed, today.

She also disagreed when the "Mat Kilau" film director asked for a 30 per cent reduction on child support payment of their two children.

The 38-year-old actress said the amount was suggested by Syamsul during the previous proceedings.

"He suddenly asked for a discount today, I will stand my ground and I'm willing to fight for my children.

"Why would I want to withdraw my lawsuit against Ira as it is something I have been fighting for," she said.

Sarah said even if the proceedings continue for 1,000 years she will not withdraw the case.

She said it was not marital property that was requested but justice for her children.

However, she said she will consider the actions suggested by her husband, but she will not withdraw all the claims.

"My case with Syamsul and my case with Ira are two different cases, it shouldn't be lumped together," she said after the divorce application proceedings at the Lower Syariah Court here on Tuesday.

The 39-year-old director in the proceedings did not agree towards divorcing Sarah after hearing the terms that he did not agree to.

Sarah arrived at court around 9.20am clad in all white setting the image of wanting to start anew with her life.

Syamsul had arrived wearing a grey jacket at 9.50am refusing to make any statements.

"I came to read the pledge, we'll see how it goes, I have no further comments," he said.

For the record Syamsul and Sarah married each other on March 8, 2014 and had two children that were Syaikhul Islam, 6, and Sumayyah, 4.

The celebrity couple's marital issues reportedly started four years ago, but the son to Datuk Yusof Haslam had never spoke on the matter.

On Jan 6, Syamsul vowed to put a stop to the mystery of his relationship with Ira Kazar when he admitted he married her in Thailand.

Sarah who was the actress in the 'Lu Pikirlah Sendiri de Movie' then filed a divorce application on Jan 16, 2023, through the Messrs Akberdin & Co.

Among the reasons were there being a lack of understanding and prolonged shiqaq (actions causing harm towards wife) and no longer being able to live together as a husband and wife according to sharia law.

On March 7 following Syamsul's refusal to divorce Sarah the court ordered them to appoint a JKP representative.

The court then set the proceedings to Tuesday for Syamsul to divorce Sarah on good terms following Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territory) Act 1984.

However, on April 10, the court informed the pair had reached an agreement to divorce on good terms.

It was based on settlement terms agreed to including hadanah, child support, mutaah, nusyuz and marital property.
