Corruption: Go after the 'big fish' instead of the 'small fries'

SHAH ALAM - The government must combat corruption on all levels including targetting the "big fish" involved in such activities.

Seni Silat Cekak Ustaz Hanafi Association deputy president 1 Mohamad Rais Abu Noh said it was important that action was taken against the group (big fish) as it would have a more significant impact compared to going after the "small fries".

"Priority must be given to catching those at the top (leadership), the big fish as their involvement in corruption has a much detrimental effect.

"Thus, those who would be gaining wealth, are individuals at the top with billions of ringgit.

"Alhamdulillah, I see that the new government has started to take action against those involved in the "Pandora Papers" (revelation) case," he told Sinar Harian on Sunday.

The Pandora Papers is a document revealing wealth hidden overseas, tax exemption syndicates and money laundering among the rich and influential people around the world.

Rais said previously there were no actions taken against them for their involvment in the cases causing these big fish to roam freely.

"Certainly we don't know the truth of what actually happened as long as we don't find out or investigate whether they are guilty or not, but what is important is for action to be taken.

"At least we can see the current government making efforts to combat corruption and investigating the Pandora Papers case whether it is valid," he said.

He said the best measure in overcoming corruption was to start instilling tauhid (oneness of God) values at the school level.

"In the silat association, tauhid values have been instilled in students from an early stage. Tauhid is where one would have the trustworthiness and responsible traits," he said.
