Speaking to Sinar Daily, they say it was a burden they face at every festive season.
Amirul Omar, a 25-year-old Social Media Executive, expressed disappointment over the exorbitant flight ticket prices during festive seasons, calling them unreasonable and often double or triple the price of a one-way ticket.
He said traveling overseas can sometimes be cheaper than domestic travel.
“The pricing structure is unreasonable, especially when traveling overseas, it can sometimes be cheaper.
“This situation not only burdens me but affects everyone who wants to travel back to Sabah and Sarawak, especially during festive seasons,” he said.
Commenting further, he said the issue has been persisted for years without any solution and urged authorities to find a solution.
“We are paying triple the price for domestic tickets. While we understand that it is a festive season, the authorities should be more aware of this issue since we are traveling within Malaysia and not overseas,” he reasoned.
Meanwhile, Ak Mohd Nas Pg Muhiddin, 48, who hails from Sabah said that the flight prices have been rapidly increasing since the movement control order (MCO) was implemented in 2020.
“The government seems not to care since this is not a new issue and every year we face the same problem,” he said.
Nas claimed it's more cost-effective to travel abroad than within the country, adding that locals have been calling for authorities to come up with a solution to ease the burden of expensive flight tickets.
“Just imagine how much it would cost for a family of four to balik kampung for Raya," he added.
