'Give gov't time to prove good governance, eradicate corruption'
SINAR HARIAN REPORTERSSHAH ALAM - Ikram Malaysia (Ikram) urged the people not to push the government to show and prove its achievements throughout the five months in administering the country.
The Yang Dipertua Ikram Kuala Lumpur Zainal Adnan Abd Halim said since the country is practicing parlimanetary democracy, the people should give the government five years to rule to enable them to make comparisons with previous governments.
"Any form of change is impossible to be carried out in a short span of time, especially in the current systems, which are not organised due to corruption and other issues.
"To fix the administration issues, governance issues, and corruption that have been happening for twenty something years, it will surely take several years to fix them and establish good governance," he said.
Sinar Harian reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has requested time from the people to prove the current government's good governance and to put an end to all forms of corruption in the country's administration.
In responding to this, Zainal Adnan said it was a good move by the premier to ensure the country is free from corruption.
"There has never been a prime minister who is strict and committed to making changes, fixing the current administration system, and fighting bribery.
"So when the government is pressing on these objectives to push for changes in the system, therefore, we need to give them sufficient time to realise the promise," he added.
