AMPANG JAYA - A lorry driver who was seen lighting fireworks on the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) Highway has been arrested Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the 35-year-old suspect was arrested at 10pm by the police after a viral video of the man lighting fireworks.

"The suspect had set off a cake (138) type firework after it was requested by a customer at his friend’s premises.

"The suspect’s action was recorded before it was uploaded to Facebook before going viral on social media. The video prompted the police to initiate an investigation," he said.

He said the suspect did not have any prior criminal records, and his urine test came back negative.

"The suspect was remanded for four days under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

"The case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957," he said.

The viral video on Friday showed the man burning fireworks on a highway.

The individual’s action drew criticism from netizens, who described his actions as irresponsible in addition to endangering highway users’ safety.
