Cops to crackdown on those playing fireworks past midnight, causing disturbance

KUALA LUMPUR - Individuals who play with fireworks after midnight and disturb public order may face action.

Malaysian police secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said those caught could be fined up to RM100 and fined under the Minor Offences Act 1955 (Act 336).

“Strict action would be taken against individuals for causing explosions or keeping explosives with the purpose of endangering life or property under Section 7 of the Explosives Act 1957 and face up to seven year prison sentence or a fine of RM10,000 or both,” she said in a statement on Sunday.

Noorsiah said fireworks represented explosives categorised under dangerous goods cargo (DGC) hazard class division (HCD) 1.4g and could cause harm if playes recklessly.

"People who play with fireworks are reminded to do so in open areas to avoid disturbing public order and annoying residents."

"During this festive season, parents are reminded to supervise their children and ensure fireworks are handled responsibly and safely," she said.
