KUALA LUMPUR - The infamous Sheraton Move was merely a night of dinner at Sheraton Hotel, claims opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

"There was never a Sheraton Move. It was only a day in Sheraton to have dinner together," Hamzah defended the name that has become synonymous to the sudden collapse of elected Pakatan Harapan government in Feb 2020.

He further told Politically Frank interview with Sinar Daily that a "Sheraton Move" would include "a proper sit-down, meeting and gathering until something is created but no, it was nor like that."

The Larut MP was asked on him and several other political leaders' decision to jump from Umno to join Bersatu but later regroup and formed Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition who took over Putrajaya in March 2020.

Hamzah briefly explained that his principlewas to ensure measures were taken for the sake of the people as the prime minister's seat was vacant after the sudden resignation of Dr Mahathir.

"And the available option at that point of time was Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"How to make sure that Muhyiddin wins? (We) work with Umno boys as they were willing to work together to make sure Muhyiddin is the prime minister, there's nothing wrong," Hamzah said.

Hamzah highlighted that everything was done in a proper manner according to the country's constitution.
