MELAKA - Melaka Zoo will undergo a facelift with various aspects, including animal habitats, facilities for visitors and additional animals, at a cost of more than RM1 million to attract visitors, especially in the run-up to the Year of Melaka 2024 (TMM 2024).

Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) president Datin Sapiah Haron said one of the new attractions to be brought to Melaka Zoo next week is a giraffe from Africa worth more than RM200,000 as an attraction during the Aidilfitri holidays.

”We are in the process of replacing old or damaged animal cages, and so far have completed repair work on the Harimau Malaya and elephant cages,” she told reporters after Program Masih Ada Yang Sayang MPHTJ today.

Sapiah said another tourist product that will be upgraded for TMM2024 is the Melaka Bird Park in Ayer Keroh, which will be re-opened to the public in November this year.

"We are also upgrading the entrance to Melaka to welcome tourists for the TMM 2024," she said.
