PM wants full report on the RM789.56 million worth of heroin seized in Australia
SUNGAI PETANI - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the Royal Malaysian Customs Department to prepare a full report on the RM789.56 million worth of heroin seized by the Australian authorities in a shipping container from Malaysia to Brisbane on March 13.
He said it was truly shameful if the matter was true and the drugs came from Port Klang.
"How was it smuggled in without being detected (by the port authorities). How did similar smuggling activities happen 12 to 16 times without it ever being detected until it was discovered by the Australian authorities?" he stressed.
Anwar was met at Home Ministry Madani Iftar and Pure Values Implementation Ceremony, here, today.
He said he had asked the Criminal Investigation Department and the Police Commercial Crime Investigation Department to assist in the investigation.
"Hopefully the report will be ready in a week or two. We need to know what actually happened.
"We won't compromise and we will take strict action," he said.
Sinar previously reported the police had confirmed that the Australian authorities had seized 336 kilogrammes (kg) of heroin brought in a container via Brisbane from Malaysia on March 13.
The Royal Malaysian Police secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department is conducting an investigation based on the information received from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) before taking any further action.
