Man arrested for insulting royal institution

KUALA LUMPUR - A local man was arrested under suspicion of insulting and belittling the royal institution in a Facebook post.

Malaysia Police Secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the 42-year-old man was arrested in Temerloh, Pahang by the Temerloh district police headquarters (IPD) officers today.

“The remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code will be issued tomorrow,” she said in a statement.

Noorsiah said investigations were held under the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit, D5 Division, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“The public are reminded to respect the royal institution as stated in the Constitution to maintain the stability of the country, race and religion.

“Any individuals or parties found insult or belittling the royal institution will face action,” she said.
