KUALA LUMPUR - Despite having different opinions on politics, Malaysians are united when it comes to the Palestinian struggle.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Malaysia has a good political wheel when it comes to Palestine issues.

"We have a good political climate, even though we have different opinions on politics, but when it comes to the Palestine struggle, we are united," he told media members during a press conference of the Annual Grand Iftar with the Palestinian Community in Malaysia, organised by the Palestine Organisation and Culture of Malaysia (PCOM) at the Flamingo Hotel, Ampang, today.

Saifuddin, who is also a co-founder of PCOM, further added that the original purpose of PCOM was to mobilise efforts to spread information about the struggle of the Palestinian community to Malaysians.

"PCOM, which I co-founded with Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi and other political leaders from various political parties, is not only patronising the Palestinian community in Malaysia but also providing support and help to some of them to continue their studies at local universities, which we hope when they return to their homeland they will contribute again to the building of the Palestinian state.

"We want to invite Malaysians to be prepared to think outside the box, not only in terms of aid such as moral aid, clothing aid, and medicine aid," he explained.

He also expressed his gratitude to all non-profit organisations and Malaysian leaders, who contributed a lot to today’s iftar event for the Palestinian community living in Malaysia.

"I am very grateful that today's ceremony went smoothly with the support of NGOs and national figures such as Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Syed Jaafar Albar, who is a former senior minister in our country and gave a lot of advice and insight to PCOM.

Also present were Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul, PCOM president Muslim Imran and 600 Palestinian communities in Malaysia.
