Jamal denies allegations of bribing representatives
SHAH ALAM - Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunus denies allegation of bribing 12 representatives to vote for him in the party election on March 18.
He also did not rule out the possibility that the Umno Disciplinary Board has received false complaints from certain individuals who defamed him after he defended the post.
"I don’t want to comment further until I give my statements on Wednesday (April 12, 2023) to the Umno Disciplinary Board," he was reported as saying.
He said he will make a media statement after attending the hearing.
The Umno Disciplinary Board had summoned the Sungai Besar division chief over allegations of bribery against representatives in the party election on March 18.
The letter summoning Jamal was signed by Umno Disciplinary Board chairman Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun and was dated April 7.
The letter stated Jamal was summoned for allegedly violating Umno Constitution provisions and Umno members code of ethics, punishable under Clause 20.9.
"Datuk Seri on March 17, 2023, at around 6.15pm had engaged in corruption by giving RM1,000 to 12 nominees (representatives) from Parit Sungai Haji Dorani, Parit 3 Jalan Lama, Sungai Limau, Simpang Tiga Loji, and Pekan Pasir Panjang Umno branches.
"They are also representatives of Sungai Besar Umno division and were handed out bribes by 'Datuk Seri’s agent' to elect him as Sungai Besar division chief in the party election for the 2023–2026 session," said the letter, as reported by media.
