SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) is calling on all government agencies, unions and society to lend their support in assisting ex-convicts to get back on their feet.

Its President Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman urged all crucial agencies to hire the ex-convicts and parolees and lead them to the right paths..

"It is important for the stakeholders, government, employers, trade unions and the society to assist paroled prisoners and ex-convicts to get back on their feet.

"Getting paroled prisoners and ex convicts employed is the right step to assist them," he stressed.

When asked of the wages, Syed Hussain said it is determined by the employers based on the ex-convicts skills, market rate and company capacity to pay.

"In the event the performance meets or exceeds set Key Performance Index (KPI), the ex-convicts will be considered for salary review and bonusses.

"Employers provide the training to equip them to perform their jobs.

"Training may either be on the job training or to upskill them through formal training sto meet the requirements of job," he said.

He further said, when the ex-convicts are employed in formal private sector employment, employers will have to fulfil the statutory requirements such as SOCSO and Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the provisions of the labour legislations especially the Employment Act.
