KUALA LUMPUR - Two petitions related to the royal pardon to free and release the former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak have been launched.

The two petitions were launched on the change.org platform named as "Petition to Yang di-Pertuan Agong: Najib is Unworthy of Pardon" started by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) and "Free Najib Razak Through Royal Pardon" made by an individual named Ariff Lias.

Awani's survey of the site up to 11am showed that the first petition received the most number of signatures which was at 135,643.

It was approaching closer to the 150,000 signatures target since its launch on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the "Free Najib Razak Through Royal Pardon" petition only received 7,743 signatures with target of 10,000 signatures.

Both petitions provided their own explanations about the royal pardon.

Among the issues mentioned in the petition protesting the royal pardon was the effect of corruption which brings misery and shame to the people.

Meanwhile, in the support petition, the issue that was highlighted was the alleged unfairness of the trial and the flawed judicial system in the SRC case Najib faced. - Awani
